Your core is like a sturdy central link in a chain connected to the rest of your body. A strong and stable core ensures that the rest of the body is stable too. This is not just applicable to the human body but is valid for innumerable objects and concepts across the universe!
In this blog post I’m gonna share my experience celebrating core strength with hundreds of women from all age groups on a Sunday afternoon to rewrite history! A movement where 1623 women took a crack at the Guinness Book of World Records for the event “the most people to hold the abdominal plank position” for a minute!
I know it has been a while since I posted on my blog and on Instagram. A lot of events occurred in November which kept me busy. But from now on I shall make it a point to write at least one blog post every week 🙂 So let me begin with one of my many awesome experiences in the month of November- The Puma #DoYou Movement in association with POPxo !
The Plank Position
For those of you who aren’t aware of the plank and wanna give it a try, here’s a quick description-
Place your forearms on the ground with the elbows aligned below the shoulders and arms parallel to the body at about shoulder-width distance.
Ground your toes into the floor and squeeze the glutes to stabilize your body. Your legs should be working too. Be careful not to lock or hyper-extend your knees!
Make sure your core and hips don’t arch or sink. That’s what it is all about after all, you gotta look like a plank 😛
Lastly fix a spot where you’d wanna look. It could be the floor or straight ahead. Maintain your neck’s alignment with your back.
My Experience at the Puma #DoYou Movement
It was the 6th of November, clear skies and an atmosphere where I could breathe in the excitement and the positive vibes spread by all the women who had commemorated for this epic movement!
Every woman had to first pass the preliminary test to make it to the official attempt. All the participants were given lovely tangerine Puma muscle tees!
So here we were, all the qualified women inside the huge Jio Garden at BKC meeting other lovely ladies, getting our pictures clicked, swaying to the songs performed by the band on a huge stage there.
I also got interviewed by Puma! 😀 You guys can check out the video by clicking on the link below:
Here’s a screenshot!
I had gone for the event alone, so I was super glad to bump into a couple of my pretty blogger friends! We chilled together during the entire event 🙂
There were food trucks lined up, selling yummy dishes and refreshments! I got myself an ultra delicious Nutella shake!
By now the stars of the event- Bollywood actresses Jacqueline Fernandes, Kalki Koechlin and wrestler Sakshi Malik had arrived, ready for the first attempt.
After several checks for proper placement the countdown began! This is what all of us looked like planking together, a vast sea of strong women in tangerine 😀
Post the first attempt, we had a fun zumba session with Sucheta Pal! They were playing all my favorite songs and we went mad dancing to them 😀
During this time, the officials from the Guinness Book of World Records were evaluating the results! I was covering all of this on my Snapchat. ( My id is megha_ray, in case if you wanna follow 😉 )
After roughly 45 minutes, that moment for which we all were waiting finally arrived. There was such nervousness and anticipation! Somewhere in my heart, I knew we had made it. But they announced that some women had been disqualified. Anxious, we kept staring at the officials to find out whether we had made it or not in spite of the glitch.
The countdown ended. Finally they broke the ice. We had done it! In the first attempt itself! 😀
Everyone was jumping, clapping and screaming with joy! No one was really paying much attention to what was being said post the results 😛
We were dancing, hugging other participants and finally rushing to the counter to collect our certificates and gift cards! 😀
I feel so proud of all the women who decided to participate, ditching their lazy Sunday afternoon. We rewrote history!
I love being a part of events that spread such good vibes! I am struggling to find the right words to describe my experience and this was just the beginning. It was the second best experience I had last month 😀
Which means, in my next blog post I’m gonna come back with the best event I’ve ever attended! Anyone following me on my social media could probably take a guess 🙂
Hope you guys are doing great! Have a super weekend and cheers to a good life! 😀
